Both machines are based on La Marzocco's professional Linea Classic machine, which is designed to run a coffee shop. The first home edition of Linea Classic was therefore called Linea Mini. The machine is designed to still be able to run a coffee shop, but only has a single group/handle where a professional machine often has 2. The dosing buttons on the professional machine were also replaced with a start and stop button/paddle.
The newest version of the Linea Mini is called the Linea Mini R and was launched in February 2024. The new version has undergone a facelift and has new functions, the most obvious of which is the shot timer which helps keep an eye on the duration of your espresso.

If you brew 5 espresso shots in quick succession, there will start to be a slight temperature difference in the following shots. Provided that you can maintain a high cadence in your espresso production. In other words, the Micra can run a household and the Mini can run a coffee shop.
Some prefer the workspace of the Mini and the story that it can run a coffee shop. For others, the size of the Mini is a challenge and instead choose the Micra, which can more easily find a place in the kitchen.
